The Wanda Gag House

This is the childhood home of Wanda Gag author of the children's book _Millions of Cats_. It was designed and built by her father Anton in 1894.

The John Lind House

This 1887 Queen Anne style home was once home of John Lind, the 14th Governor of Minnesota.

Our next stop was

the Veterans Memorial and the Defenders Monument. The Veterans Memorial honors past, present and future veterans who honorably serve their country in peace and war. The Defenders monument was errected in 1891 by the state of Minnesota to honor those who defended New Ulm in the Dakota war. The artwork at the base was created by Anton Gag.

A Tourist in Our Hometown

While we have gotten a chance to see many things in our city, county and state there were a few more local things I wanted to see. These murals are oil on canvas permanently affixed to plaster walls. They were created by John Martin Socha in 1940 as a Federal Art Project, part of the Work Projects Administration(WPA). The Battle of New Ulm and the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux murals are 7 by 19 feet. The Progress and Industry mural is 8 by 14 feet. These murals are in the New Ulm Middle School Auditorium.

On the road again. . .

I headed to SD to take care of some more pre - moving things. Again, it was my treat to get to eat lunch AND supper with R! When we lived in NC I remember seeing fireworks stands just across the border in SC, same thing here!

Riding Lessons

H rode Sadie, I rode Heidi and Ms. J rode Zahra and we headed out on the road. It was warm and sunny with a cool breeze, a beautiful day for a ride.
