Turkey Hunting

C found the camo paint and the turkey call, he's practicing for spring turkey season. Oh, and the cowboy shirt he's wearing? Mom and Dad brought two dress up outfits home from their trip to Colorado in 1974 for my sister D and I. Although the shirt has lost it's fringe, it still lends authenticity to the cowboy games the children play.

Gramma Thresher's Molasses Cookies

One of my most vivid memories, you know the ones that come with smell and taste? is the Molasses cookies that my Gramma Alice had ready for our visits. She must have put them warm into the large, white, cylinder tupperware container that was on the top of her fridge, because when you took one out they were stuck to a couple of others. I have made them before, but not in a while. I think I'll be making them more often, the recipe makes a large batch and the children loved them. And my house smelled like Gramma's!

Full Wolf Moon

January's full moon is known as the Full Wolf Moon. We have not heard any wolves howling at night outside our home as SD does not have any permanent wolf populations anymore, although there are occasional reports of wolves wandering in from nearby states.

Cold, but Beautiful!

Can you see the thermometer?

It says - 17.1 degrees F. It was the first day this winter we did not get above zero. Oh yes, when I talked to R, he said it was a balmy 78 degrees F in California.

I just like saying Bok Choy!

The view from my kitchen window. . .

thank you Mom for my sparkly snowmen that I made into a garland and A for my scrabble "family" sign!

Naptime

C doesn't take naps anymore, hasn't for at least a year. This afternoon he was on my lap while I read history aloud to the other children, he got stiller and heavier the longer I read and eventually fell asleep. Don't look too closely at the crumbs left over from lunch or the permanent marker stripes on his hand from when he was a tiger. . .

A Tractor with a Wagon

Oh, yes, C is wearing the mask for the nebulizer on his head. No, he does not asthma or reactive airway disease, thank God. He just likes to play dress up: astronaut, DarthVader, deep sea diver, Daddy with his c-pap machine. . .

We took Daddy to the airport

Sunday afternoon. He is headed to CA for two weeks. I get to join him for the second week! Sunday afternoon was very slow at the airport, there were no planes to watch taking off and the moving ramp was not moving.

Our house from the lake,

the power auger, winter transportation, a turquoise house and my favorite falling down shack.

Sunday was overcast, colder and more windy.

On Saturday R drove and I was a passenger, I had a moment of panic right before I stepped out onto the ice and then I was fine. Today I drove out on the ice and I DON"T LIKE DRIVING ON THE ICE! But, once we were parked I was fine. You can see the spot where one of the fish houses was yesterday and the fish finder also known as the "video game".

Fishing and Snowball Fights!

While most of the fishing

went on inside the houses, there was some old fashioned outside fishing, too.
