Iowa shares some of the same sad history as Minnesota. This area was the location of the Spirit Lake Massacre. Four female settlers were abducted. One, Abbie Gardner was just a child and this was her home. After she was purchased by sympathetic Dakota she lived with her sister, married and had children of her own. She eventually returned to this cabin, purchased it and set up a museum here.
