On the grounds of the Hjemkomst Center

is a full scale replica of the Hopperstad Stave Church in Vik, Norway. A stave church is a medieval wooden church built withpost and beam construction and vertical planks. The load bearing post, called stafr in old Norse lend their name to the building technique. The original church was built around 1130 and is the oldest stave church in existence.
