Our last stop was close to home,

about a country block away. I have driven by this small park like area for nearly three years now and had never stopped. Earlier in the week a man had called from the Brown County Museum, he had an archaeologist who wanted to come take a look around our property. The couple, Adolph Schilling and his wife Christine, who first homesteaded what is now our property were killed and their cabin burnt in the Dakota Conflict. The archaeologist was unable to find any depressions that would mark the old cellar hole on our farm, but he was very interesting to talk with. So after his visit, I guessed what the park might be in remembrance of. Many settlers were able to make it to New Ulm and safety, because their Dakota neighbors warned them.
