During the winter thousands of bats hibernate in the cave, most had left by the time of our visit, we only saw one lone bat. In the photo of the door into the cave you can see the bat door above the human door. The only other living creature in the cave is a very small animal that lives in the water features of the cave. Our guide told us their population soars in the summer when there are human visitors to the cave. His theory is they eat skin cells we slough off as we move and live. He told us one day he saw a hair in the pool and lined up on either side just like a buffet were all the teeny creatures.
